A Servant’s Heart
Do you know what it means to have a servant’s heart? Servant means to serve; Serve means to help, assist, or attend to.
Most people think of the word servant with a negative attitude. They see servants as those who wait on someone hand and foot. They think the job of a servant is demeaning, thankless and a horrible job to have.
Servants are not slaves, they are people who help or assist others. There are many jobs with in God’s kingdom that require servants. Are you a servant?
Servants in God’s kingdom do the will of God with a humble attitude and with the desire to not only serve God but help others along their journey. Servants may have a thankless unnoticeable duty but God notices their service and for their service their reward shall be great in heaven. A lot of people do not want to be servants because of the negative connotation that goes with that title, however, if you are a child of God, doing God’s will then you are a servant. For example. If you are a Sunday School Teacher, a Music Ministry Leader, a Pastor of any sort then you are considered a servant.
Next question……Do you have a servant’s heart?
Having a servant’s heart means you will do whatever you need to do to help others regardless of the pay, the job description, or where the job needs to be performed. A servant’s pay in terms of the world is not good at all, but God blesses the servants. Their pay (riches) are being stored up for them in Heaven, when they go home, the rejoicing will be great, for God loves a servant with a servant’s heart.
I was out walking a friend of mine’s two dogs when God began to speak to me about having a servant’s heart. God showed me something about myself that I was not truly aware of….and that is I have a servant’s heart. I put everyone else and everything else before and above my own needs and desires. I think about everyone else first before I think about myself and I do without thinking twice about it. For example: walking 4 wonderful little dogs for a friend who can’t because she just had surgery. I would drive 30 minutes one way and spend an hour walking her 4 dogs and spend another 30 minutes driving home without even thinking about my time, what I was not getting done, or how much gas I was using up. See I did this for free, because I care about my friend and she needed my assistance, my help. I will admit there was on day I complained that I really didn’t have the time and it was keeping me from getting done what I felt was important and needed to do and that I really didn’t have the gas or the money for the gas, but when time came to go I jumped up and off I went not even thinking twice about it. God told me that is a true servant’s heart and it was okay to complain to him, because he already knew. The best thing was this…this afternoon before I left to go walk the dogs, I realized I had lost some weight I had been trying to lose for 2 months, and I received a phone call from the pet sitting service that I work very part-time for and they had another job for to do this week. Also, before I left to go walk the dogs, I had accomplished more in the few hours before than I had in 4 days. God had blessed with time and financially….no, I am not getting a paycheck from the friend I am helping out, but I will be getting a paycheck in a couple of weeks for taking care of two other dogs later this week plus payment for taking care of a dog two weeks ago. God always provides for his servants, he always meets their every need. I am living proof.
