I’ve been doing this for almost 8 years, non stop, 24/7 for the most part. I’ve been surrounded by the most incredible warriors, volunteers, and support staff I could have ever asked for. We all grieve for these children. Some days it’s the grief that fuels us. Some days it’s anger.
Some days it is hope. But most days it’s being able to look at 1300+ faces who are FOUND and SAFE that fuels us. Nothing beats seeing these kids home where they belong, even better, to meet them in person! There are no words to describe the feeling we all get when we can visit together at our annual family reunions. It’s knowing that if I walk away, if I shut down even for a little while, SOMEBODY goes unserved, unfound.
The need is tremendous. As soon as we get a child home, we find and list another one to the site. Yes, it’s exhausting and draining in every way imaginable.
After 8 years, I have learned to “desensitize” just enough to be able to keep going every day. I’ve learned to turn my shoulder to the haters and keep my nose to the grindstone of service. Spend a few minutes watching (and sharing) this year’s video, let the heartbreak in and use it to EMPOWER you! If you can’t adopt, GIVE. If you can’t give, SHARE. Reece’s Rainbow makes it possible for EVERYONE to do SOMETHING.
