Be Filled With The Spirit

Be Filled With The Spirit

By Mark Luker

Ephesians 5:18  “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”

translation according to me, based on my life experiences…..

Don’t let wine or anything of this world distract us to excess….but rather be filled to overflowing with God’s spirit.

Anyone remember what happens the next day after being filled to excess with things other than God’s spirit?

In addition to feeling, shall we say, unhealthy….I always felt empty…run down.  It was like I could only handle so much excess.

But when it comes to God’s spirit….I am like an eternal cup that just can’t be filled enough you know?

John 4:14  “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

I don’t know about everyone else….but the day after a night of worldly excess….I was always thirsty.

The more I am filled with God’s spirit, the better I feel! There has never been a time where I felt sick or rundown after church……at least for me.

So what to do when filled with God’s spirit…when his spirit overwhelms you?

Ephesians 5:19  “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

I think God wants us to be so carried away by him that we want to sing, dance, and have hearts filled with joy for him!

No, I don’t think he intends for us to all be professional singers, or famous in the eyes of the world….

I think being filled with God’s spirit has nothing to do with the world!

Like David, I will dance before the Lord and be glad!

2 Samuel 6:16  And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.”

I have been told, and some of you might be thinking, that it might be undignified and irrevant to God, to dance and sing before him.

But apparently, David didn’t think so……

2 Samuel 6:20-23:

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Okay, so I don’t sound so good when outside of the shower…..and I may appear to be undignified to the world……

But I will dance before the Lord when his spirit moves me!

Let nothing hinder the passion in your soul!

World Prayr has chosen to be different, starting with teaching others that the pilgrimage all those who have been brought near to God are on is not one about our focusing on what we are doing, or focusing on our sin or anything we are not doing, but focusing on what Christ did in order for us to know transforming grace. We refer to this message as the gospel of grace. We then live this out as a ministry by serving others through counseling, prayer, and sound biblical teachings.

We also differ from most ministries in another key area, working to live out the message of Philippians 2:4 by aggressively promoting other ministries and churches. As a mission team, World Prayr is working to serve those who are disconnected to reconnect them, one soul at a time, to local bodies of believers.

We refer to our team as an “Ohana” made up of many nationalities spread across the globe and within the Protestant faith.
