Friday Evening Gifts
Can you hear it? Maybe it’s a melody, a guitar being strummed, the melodic sounds of a saxophone, a clean joke that generates a belly laugh, maybe even a concert or an entire performance of a comedian, a virtuosi violinist or several playing together, the sounds of the wind, a storm, the voice of an angel or an opera singer, the voice of a Christian artist or those words to that song that make you think of that special someone, a beautiful dance, drums being beat to a rhythmic sound, these and more are great gifts. Gifts not meant to be worshiped or the one performing to be worshiped. This is where man takes and perverts these gifts, but that is not the only place perverts them.
Man, also, perverts them in the same way when He classifies the gift as either Godly or Satanic, while all the created can be used in a way that does not honor God, all gifts come from the same source. When we classify these gifts themselves as either/or we rob the giver of the gift of His glory for giving the gift. For the giver of all talent, all abilities, all good gifts is the same one that gives to all the common grace to get out of bed in the morning.
God is the same one who gives the grace to appreciate these gifts and the same grace that inspires a Christian author to be overwhelmed by the touch of His glory through a guitarist playing a beautiful piece, that others might classify as an unGodly song. God intends all of His gifts to bring us deep joy, a joy that causes us to focus on the His wonder, to be amazed by His Being and most of Him to make known His glory through loving others.
