I love promises don’t you?
When I was a kid, promises meant the world to me.
Promises from my Grandfather that he would take me fishing –
Promises from my Grandmother that she would buy us an ice cream cone when we went to town.
So many wonderful promises – so much hope!
I also remember the disappointment that came when a promise was broken.
But oh the limitless joy that comes with the promises that God has made us!
Not just the joy that comes from knowing all the promises that our father in heaven has made to us – but the kind of joy that makes us feel loved and protected.
Psalm 89:8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
And the best part? The sweet joyful knowledge that God’s promises will never be broken!
I grew up with people in my life who made a lot of promises to me – and as I grew – I learned to recognize an empty promise when I heard one. The reason I knew they were empty was because these people were not faithful to me.
The reason God’s promises are so real is because we know he is – and has proven to be – faithful to us!
1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
