Friends and family feel threatened by my new faith – How do I reassure them I care just as much for them?
When someone comes to Christ, a desire is created within to do all things to honor (recognize that God is God and we are not; also show our gratitude for His goodness, generosity and grace) God, to offer oneself as an instrument to God’s greatness, generosity, and goodness and to worship God.

God’s unmerited loved is the only motivation for real change. But it doesn’t guarantee change, and that scares us. So we hold on to the false safety of the lie that being good is the Good News. But, real love—grace-inspired love—that’s the stuff. It doesn’t follow any outlines or logic we’re familiar with. The gospel works against the way of the world that seems so natural to our sinful minds. We spend a lot of time trying to domesticate Jesus into some kind of weenie watchdog we can control, but sick on our enemies when need be.

“Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Heb 10:23)
In a world full of bad news, the one place that we should be able to retreat and finally be washed over with a good word, is the church. There are some scattered pastors who are faithful to God’s two words, Law and Gospel, every Sunday. They don’t attempt to remove shame by removing the Law completely nor do they add shame to the hearer by preaching cheap law (i.e. moral reform via “application”).
How often do you encourage yourself?
Do you seek self preservation? Or do you stand stagnate and continually self loathe?
Do you gather your thoughts and present them at the altar? The power of life and death is in the tongue and it still marvels me how this one little muscle can cause complete havoc or enter in unspeakable joy! Your life is important so why would you discourage yourself?
Confession: I woke up cranky today. I was impatient with my kids, griping about what they had or hadn’t done and short-tempered with inanimate objects like a box of cookies that wouldn’t easily open while I was packing lunches. I was stomping around and sighing deep and bitter sighs over an accidental apple juice spill when the Holy Spirit tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me that it wasn’t my kids’ fault I stayed up too late and then overslept as a result of it.
LET US WORSHIP GOD BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS.
Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Selah (Psalm 66:1-4)
The inspired minister of worship calls us to shout, sing, praise, and speak. Should not we follow his lead and obey? Friends, let us talk to ourselves. Let us talk to others.
