A Critical National Concern
The need for biblical and whole-life discipleship among ex-prisoners is becoming increasingly acute. Prisons are overcrowded and new ones continue to be built as a means of “solution” to the increasing crime and recidivism (return t o prison) rates.
There is an urgent need for churches to embrace and enfold Christian inmates (neighbors) being released from prison. The mid-range goal of this program is to have a participating church meet a released Christian neighbor at the prison gate somewhere in the US every day. The longer-range goal is to have thousands of churches across the nation participating, many with one Christian neighbor, but with a growing number opening family-home-based post-prison residential ministries using the Koinonia House® post-prison ministry model.

Menard Prison is such an impressive place with so many evil strongholds controlling the people and covering the prison! It is The Maximum Security Prison in Illinois and the Midwest, known for its constant violence and gang activity. It houses almost 4000 men, most of them with very long sentences, including lots of lifers.
Being in Menard this past weekend again reminded me that we as Christians are engaged in a very real and bloody spiritual battle. But yet the Battle is the Lord’s. Our Lord is Jesus Christ who won the war!!!
