Won’t teaching grace this way create apathy and spiritual laziness?…
Enjoy this excerpt from Walking in God’s Grace…
When we realize that we were once hopeless, tied to the railroad tracks of eternal death, destined to spend eternity away from God, and now the opposite is truer, because now we are the rescued.
We now have hope; we are no longer condemned, and nothing can separate us from the love of God. We now are the chosen Bride of Christ (Revelation 19-21). It creates a desire within us to worship God and to offer our bodies as living sacrifices.
When you were a kid and broke the rules and your parents brought the hammer down, what sort of desires did it create within you? More than likely, this created not a desire to please your parents but rather a desire to rebel further, because it probably made you angry.
You may have felt that your parents did not get it! Did they not see all the other things you were doing? Did they not know how hard you were trying? They may have made you feel that you never measured up or would ever be able to make them happy. So this frustrated you and possibly made you feel, “Why should I even bother?”
Now what happened when you knew you had blown it and your parents not only did not bring the hammer down, they gave you a great gift? Did this make you want to rebel more or go out and do something to make your parents look bad? More than likely, it made you feel you were being loved by your parents, which in turn, made you want to do good things for your parents, right?

While the Word of God does tell us that He disciplines those whom He loves (Hebrews 12:6), this must always be balanced with David’s words in Psalms 103:10 when he said, “God doesn’t punish us as our sins deserve.” —- continued
